12/09/2013

On September 12th, was held the second event “The Voice of Industry” organized by the CCI, which this time had the title of “Linking Industrial Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection “.

The event, with more than eighty attendees from the industry and the media, began with the presentation by Ignacio Paredes (CCI), of the second document developed through collaboration of the Center’s ecosystem, “Critical Infrastructure Protection and Industrial Cybersecurity”. This is an analysis paper on the relationships and differences between this two concepts which every day are becoming more important.

Then, Marta Arias and Javier Dieguez from INDRA detailed the implications of cybersecurity in energy’s value chain, with special attention to  water, oil, gas and electricity.

The event continued with the presentation entitled “Safety in Supply Chain: controlling suppliers and manufacturer responsibilities” by Elyoenai Egozcue from S21Sec, which established the enormous complexity, due to their interdependencies, in today’s services and products.

The last presentation was given by Ignacio Berrozpe from Checkpoint, who explained the current threat landscape affecting control systems in critical infrastructures and which analysis tools are available to counter threats and vulnerabilities in these environments.

As it is usual in the events of The Voice of Industry, there was a lively discussion panel moderated by José Valiente (CCI ) and attended by Manuel Sicilia (CNPIC) , Andreu Bravo (Gas Natural), Juan Carlos Pozas (Siemens) and Carlos Fernández (Symantec). The discussion was about the challenges of sectoral strategic plans of Spanish critical infrastructures, facing the dangers of regulatory compliance from a minimum point of view, and if cybersecurity supposed or not an additional cost to the products, services and organisations.

Samuel Linares, director of the CCI, concluded the event by thanking all the attendants and inviting them to attend the first Ibero-American Congress of Industrial Cyber Security to be held in Madrid on October 2 and 3.

In short, this call for The Voice of Industry was an opportunity to share knowledge, meet professionals and strengthen ties between all stakeholders interested in Industrial Cybersecurity thriving within their organizations.
